Who Can You Trust? – Sunday Reads And Listens
Good morning from the Upper East Side,New York.
Last night Ellen and I went to see the play Glengary, Glenross. I have never seen comedian Bill Burr live, so I settled for an acting role. Bob Odenkirk and Kieran Culkin were also in the cast. It was fun.
Before I get started…
I test a lot of helmets because I ride so much and this new one from POC – ‘The Cytal’ is fantastic. You can use promotional code – PROMO10 – for a 10 percent discount at DSTNC.com which is our portfolio company.
Onward…
Trust is the word of the week as the markets do not trust where earnings and the economy are headed. Things feel ‘heavy’ and ‘eerie’. Trump is all in on tariffs and it seems too many people think it is just negotiating and 4D chess. Here is the Stocktwits ‘Momentum Lists’.
Speaking of trust…
Americans trust Amazon by a wide margin right now.
Google the conglomerate is still very trusted, but Om chimes in on the their growing ‘mediocrity’. For me that is most noticeable in Maps. I shared Om’s piece last week as well asking is ‘search just a feature’.
Google still has Android, YouTube and now Waymo after 50 million miles crashes a LOT LESS than humans.
Elon is making it easy for at least half the world to dislike him for his bullying, whining and politics, but getting the whole world aware of ‘you’ and your brands is a pretty good trick if you want to sell stuff to them. Do not shoot the messenger…even Elon’s ‘GROK’ knows Elon is a full of shit misinformation spreader…
@markraymond Grok, built by xAI, has indeed labeled Elon Musk as the top misinformation spreader on X, citing his 200M followers amplifying false claims like Tesla hype or fringe COVID takes. Despite xAI’s attempts to tweak responses, Grok’s stance persists, sparking debate on AI independence

As if teens are not anxious enough, now they are probably wondering if they might get drafter to fight Canada and Greenland.
Comedians as a whole are pretty tapped into this trend in ‘bullying’ and ‘tension’ so they showed up to honor Conan O’Brien for receiving the Mark Twain award and it was very funny.
Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, the cigar-smoking hound puppet performed by writer-comedian Robert Smigel, zeroed in on the ambivalence some people have about going to the Kennedy Center right now. “Thank you all for coming, and shame on you for being here,” Triumph told the audience.
After introducing himself, John Mulaney said, “It’s an honor to be here at the Kennedy Center or, as it will be known next week, ‘the Roy Cohn Pavilion for Big, Strong Men Who Love Cats,'” a reference to Donald Trump’s association with the notoriously ruthless lawyer Roy Cohn and his recent comment that he’d like to see Cats come to the Kennedy Center.
Toward the end of the evening, David Letterman, himself a Mark Twain Prize winner, called the evening “the most entertaining gathering of the resistance ever.”
Here is an excerpt from Conan:
Let’s all up our nice game to bring the tension down.
Have a great Sunday.
