Personal Update: 3-Circle Investments is Going Behind The Paywall
I have decided that it is time to take my skills analyzing financial markets to the next level. I have been actively providing commentary on investing now via this free Substack for the last couple of years and I have been delivering interesting running market commentary on my X feed (@ces921) for even longer than that. I love engaging with folks online to try to express my views, have respectful dialogue, share some wisdom, learn from others, search for the truth and to improve my trading and investing.
My Background
I have had a 20+ year investment career on the buyside running large pools of capital at well-respected hedge funds including Point 72 Asset Management, Ospraie Management, Graticule Asia Macro Advisors, and at my own fund called Circle Lane Capital. My process uses a top-down macro framework married with bottoms-up industry and company fundamental analysis to model economic data and liquidity trends in order to determine appropriate asset allocation and sector rotations necessary to generate strong absolute & relative risk-adjusted returns across any market environment.
Why Now?
Many people have asked me if I would ever look to manage outside capital again or to work for a larger fund but after doing this for over 20 years, I feel best managing my own capital, the way I want to do it, based on my own risk management framework, without the additional stresses that come with managing a business or dealing with outside investors.
That being said, I often get asked for my market thoughts and investment ideas as folks are genuinely interested in what I have to say about what is going on the world and I like communicating my views publicly in order to help people navigate incredibly difficult and ever changing investment environments. So I have searched for a way to communicate my views and ideas efficiently in a way that I feel comfortable where everyone knows what they are getting from me in a highly transparent way.
What’s Next?
As a result, I have decided that the best way for me to deliver my knowledge on markets and my understanding of the big picture back to those who are interested is to open a Private Discord Channel called The Alethea Narrative. In here, I will be able to communicate in real-time what I am seeing on a daily basis, where I can let people know what I am trading with target prices and stop levels, where I can deliver longer-term structural ideas that can be debated with friends and colleagues, and where I can communicate directly with those individuals that want to come along on the journey with me as we navigate what figures to be an incredibly interesting and changing investment landscape for years to come.
The plan is to make The Alethea Narrative Private Discord Channel the first place that I am communicating my current proprietary ideas and investment analysis to the public, before it gets more widely disseminated via other channels like X, free posts on Substack, my website The Alethea Narrative or anywhere else. The idea is that paid subscribers on Substack will be given access to the Private Discord Channel and that will become the primary place where you can communicate with me and see everything that I am doing. I will be posting regularly in here about what I am trading and why, what I am thinking about on longer-term ideas, access to some of my proprietary technical tools, my current asset allocation heatmap and anything else that I am using as part of my investment process.

The idea is to treat paying subscribers as partners who are looking to my for guidance on how to analyze incredibly complicated macro markets in real-time. That is what I am good at and what I love to do.
I have set up the Discord Channel already and have begun populating the channels with information and ideas but this is a work in progress and I expect it to continue to grow and evolve over time. I am open to suggestions, I will make changes that benefit the entire community and I will be responsive to user needs and questions. Rules for The Alethea Narrative Private Discord Channel
So far, I have come up with 3 rules for the Discord Channel:
- Rule 1: Be respectful to each other. We are here to learn and make money, not tear each other down. The real world and social media world does enough of that. Let’s not do that in here. I’ll just throw you out if you abuse this.
- Rule 2: If you have generic questions about markets, post them in the ask me anything channel. If you have specific questions that you would prefer others not see, you can message me privately
- Rule 3: I will post specific trading ideas and write ups in the trade ideas channel with stops and targets. I am partnering with a company called Slice where I am contributing the ideas and they are tracking them for me so it’s easier for me to post the idea there and then screenshot it and place it in here immediately after posting. Please do not share specific trading recommendations outside of the channel
I am sure there will be additional rules that come up along the way.
Final Thoughts
I am incredibly excited to share my investment process and ideas with folks that are interested and running a Private Discord Channel is the best way for me to do this in a manageable way that I can be responsive to my partners without a lot of the noise that comes with dealing with people on social media. I only want people here who want to be here and believe they are getting their money’s worth.
