Intel Becomes The Latest Tech Trade 🧐
There have been many great trades on the long side of the tech sector these last few years, but Intel has not been one of them. However, some signals are emerging that suggest the tide could be turning in the tech giant’s favor. 🚨
Today, a report by SemiAccurate signaled that Intel could be acquired by a company as a whole and not just in parts, citing an email from unnamed sources. It also noted that the potential acquirer is not any company that has been in the news in the past, which rules out Qualcomm. 💰️
Given the size and nature of this transaction, the acquirer would have to be a behemoth in the industry, narrowing it down to just a handful of possible suitors.
However, with the stock heavily beaten down, the rumors were enough to spark an 11% rally and push Stocktwits sentiment into ‘extremely bullish’ territory. Additionally, an active poll on Stocktwits with nearly 8,000 votes shows that Intel is trailing just behind Nvidia as the semiconductor stock respondents see having the most upside potential in 2025. 🤯

TikTok’s Time Is Almost Up ⌛️
In what could be the end of a nearly four-year battle, the Supreme Court upheld the 2024 law that requires TikTok’s Chinese parent company to sell it or shut it down on Sunday, January 19th, because of national security concerns.
However, President Joe Biden announced that he would not enforce the ban that was set to take effect on Sunday, his final full day in office. Instead, the decision will be left up to the Trump Administration, which takes control on Monday and will have to decide on the next steps. 🧑💼
The Washington Post and CNN reported that Trump, who has committed to “saving TikTok,” is considering an executive order that would suspend the ban from going into effect for 60 to 90 days.
Still, many in the stock market and betting markets are wagering that a ban will eventually go into effect. Stocks like Meta, Alphabet, and Snap traded higher this week. Meanwhile, the “odds of a U.S. TikTok ban before May 2025” bet on Polymarket and Kalshi surged to 81% and 86%, respectively. 📊
We’ll have to wait and see what happens. But for now, TikTok users will enjoy “one last dance” this weekend as they anxiously await the fate of their beloved app. 😢
