OVERVIEW
The Weekend Rip: May 25, 2025

Happy Sunday, and happy Memorial Day! The U.S.A. would be nothing without the sacrifices of those who serve our country. Thank you to all who have served. Those who gave the ultimate sacrifice protecting our ideals will never be forgotten. 🦅
The market ended last week lower after hitting a 25-day peak. This upcoming week, all eyes are watching one thing: Nvidia. The chip-making giant will have to defend itself in the new tariff economy for relying on massive imports for its massive earnings. We’ll be watching Wednesday night! 📉
Let’s recap and prep you for the week ahead. 📝
What Happened?
◀️ On Monday, NY Fed President John Williams suggested taking the summer off from worrying about rates, while the market digested Moody’s Friday downgrade of U.S. creditworthiness to AA1, citing ballooning deficits. 23andMe’s bankruptcy put its DNA database up for sale. Walmart shares dipped after Trump criticized the retailer for warning of price increases, instead saying ‘eat it.’ Federal Reserve‘s Raphael Bostic envisioned just one rate cut in 2025, while JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon warned that markets show “extraordinary complacency.”
🌏️ On Tuesday, the S&P 500 fell after six consecutive sessions of gains. Home Depot reported mixed earnings and said it would diversify its supply network to avoid raising prices. According to CNBC, Palo Alto Networks fell 4% after its earnings report showed slowing revenue growth. The FDA announced new guidelines requiring clinical trials for annual COVID booster approvals in healthy adults, while Bitcoin and Ethereum surged as the Senate advanced the GENIUS Act to regulate stablecoins.
⚡️ On Wednesday, according to Bloomberg, the market fell for the second day as a record-high 20-year bond auction pushed yields up, pressuring equities. OpenAI announced plans to acquire Jony Ive’s AI device startup for $5 billion, signaling a move into wearable AI hardware, while Google partnered with Warby Parker on smart glasses. Target missed Q1 earnings estimates with revenue declining 2.8%, while Lowe’s beat expectations but saw comparable sales fall 1.7%. Snowflake posted strong Q1 results but fell post-market, UnitedHealth faced scrutiny over Medicare Advantage practices, and Bitcoin hit a record high before pulling back on macroeconomic uncertainty.
🐂 On Thursday, the market fell slightly as the GOP tax bill passed the House and heads to the Senate, with concerns over deficit increases impacting Treasury yields, according to Bloomberg. Hinge Health and MNTN debuted strong IPOs, while solar stocks plunged after the tax bill cut clean energy incentives. Advance Auto Parts surprised investors with upbeat guidance despite a tariff-heavy environment, while BYD surpassed Tesla in European EV sales for the first time.
😢 On Friday, the market fell after Trump’s tweet storm pushed a 50% EU tariff and a 25% tax on Apple’s India-made iPhones. Reuters reported the White House is close to a nuclear energy order, sending nuclear stocks soaring. Analysts warned tariffs could push iPhone prices to $3,500. Intuit beat Q3 earnings estimates, prompting analyst price target hikes. Ross Stores withdrew 2025 guidance, Ralph Lauren reported strong Q4 results.
🤩 This week’s Stocktwits Top 25 showed outperformance vs. the indexes.
