CLOSING BELL
Tweet Train Thursday

 $SPY ( ▼ 0.01% )  $QQQ ( ▼ 0.57% )  $IWM ( ▲ 1.09% )  $DIA ( ▲ 0.53% )

Happy Thursday, the market was trying to climb but ended the day with red tech stocks. It’s become increasingly hard to sift out the news from the noise this week, the whole world roaring back to life from the holidays with a passion for screwing with the stock market. And tweeting, so much tweeting.

In macro the U.S. trade deficit just hit its narrowest level since 2009, tumbling to $29.4 billion, a 39% drop. Tariffs are at work, but not so fast, the Supreme Court is hearing and possibly deciding the legality of the trade taxes as early as tomorrow.

Also arriving Friday, 2025’s last labor numbers, expected to show a slight drop in a four year high unemployment rate for December at 4.5%, and Michigan consumer sentiment.

AFTER THE BELL
Weed and AI Processing in the Post Market 🍁 💾

Tilray Brands $TLRY ( ▲ 1.56% ) shares climbed 7% after-hours after the Canadian weed company reported a record-breaking fiscal Q2 with net revenue of $217.5 million, beating the $211 million analyst consensus. The performance was anchored by a 36% explosion in international medical cannabis sales and an all-time high of $85.3 million in distribution revenue through Tilray Pharma. 🌿

While the beverage segment saw a 20% decline, the company effectively narrowed its adjusted net loss to just $0.02 per share, significantly outperforming the $0.14 loss projected by Wall Street. Management reaffirmed its full-year EBITDA guidance of $62M–$72M, signaling that its diversified strategy is successfully offsetting margin pressures in the craft beer and wellness sectors.

Aehr Test Systems $AEHR ( ▼ 6.12% ) shares plummeted over 10% in after-hours trading Thursday following a significant Q2 revenue miss and a swing to a quarterly loss. While the company posted a non-GAAP loss of $0.04 per share, about what analysts expected, net revenue of $9.9 million fell well short of the $11.6 million consensus.

To counter the soft quarter, CEO Gayn Erickson reinstated full-year guidance and announced over $5.5 million in new orders for its “Sonoma” ultra-high-power systems designed for AI processors. Management expressed optimism for the second half of fiscal 2026, citing improved visibility in the AI and data center markets, but the price drop shows investors are still pricing in the past.

The market has been brutal: inflation hitting highs, the ups and downs. It can be a scary time to be an investor – or a great one. THIS is where millionaires can be minted. Warren Buffett, the greatest investor of all time, prophetically said be fearful when others are greedy, and be greedy when others are fearful. And with Motley Fool Epic, it’s easy to be greedy at this time.

I say that because for all the talk about the current market conditions, our team has produced these kinds of winners:

— Amazon (up 29,489% since September 6, 2002) — Netflix (up 48,970% since December 17, 2004) — Nvidia (up 48,882% since December 18, 2009)

And keep in mind, these returns include the good times…and the bad. You can’t go back in time and invest in these stocks. But you can join today and be among the first people to hear about our newest picks.

CHIP NEWS
China to Allow Massive U.S.-Made Chip Buying Soon 🤔

China stocks are on fire after Bloomberg reported it would approve Nvidia H200 chip buying as soon as Q1. Though sources said the Chinese government would limit the use of foreign chips in sensitive infrastructure and government use, Alibaba $BABA ( ▲ 5.26% ) was climbing, reportedly telling Nvidia it wanted 200,000 units of the high end chips. If priced at $30k a chip, that looks like a cool $8B for Nvidia right there!

Nvidia was notably not climbing on the news, $NVDA ( ▼ 2.15% ) taking a breather after a roaring year. 2026 has shown the market is ready and willing to branch out from the roaring ‘25 market that rewarded a handful of stocks with outsized returns. Those gains won’t come easy, though, as cooling Thursday memory stocks demonstrated. Sandisk $SNDK ( ▼ 5.38% ) and Western Digital $WDC ( ▼ 6.1% ) were pulling back after an epic run, with traders locking in profits.

Twitter Still Stuns the Stock Market 🐔

Speaking earlier this week at the Trump Kennedy Center, President Trump asked GOP members how they can appease voters as midterms approach, “I wish you could explain to me what the hell’s going on with the mind of the public because we have the right policy,” he said.

The violence in Minnesota is a hideous avoidable tragedy. And while the House passed a bipartisan extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies, the Senate passed a bipartisan block for future strikes on Venezuela without congressional approval. Of course, neither is guaranteed to pass in the other chamber or get a signature on Trump’s desk.

The president instead turned his attention to housing and defense: he said Thursday he wanted the government to buy $200B in mortgage bonds. On Wednesday he said private mega-buyers that make up 1% of the market should stop buying rentals.

He also tweeted last night that defense companies had to cut buybacks to build arms and proposed a $1.5T budget for defense next year, sending Lockheed Martin $LMT ( ▲ 4.34% ) $NOC ( ▲ 2.39% ) and $RTX ( ▲ 0.78% ) higher.

MoonLake Immunotherapeutics $MLTX ( ▲ 27.02% ) jumped 45% following a successful “Type B” meeting with the FDA, which cleared a path for its sonelokimab therapy without requiring additional Phase 3 trials. Sellas Life Sciences $SLS ( ▼ 4.46% ) is trending heavily as it nears the final readout for its Phase 3 REGAL trial in acute myeloid leukemia. Retail traders are piling in ahead of the data release, betting that the positive recommendation from the Independent Data Monitoring Committee signals a high probability of trial success. 💊

Opendoor $OPEN ( ▲ 5.07% ) stock plunged over 11% on Wednesday, along with other housing-related stocks, after President Donald Trump signaled a new rule to ban institutional ownership of single-family homes.
