AI Speed Bumps: AI Agent Shopping, Siri goes to AI School, and Anthropic's ID Checks

Today’s Theme: AI speed bumps ahead for companies and services. Three today, plus Gadget AI on ambient recording, & more.

Three MP Key Takes today:

(1) The Friction in AI Agent Shopping. Adyen’s payments exec is flagging AI buying bots driving refunds and fraud risk at checkout. Retailers pushing back because that’s bad for business. Also, the web was built assuming bots are criminals — helpful agents trip the same fraud-detection nets. Just the beginning as AI Shopping engages with incumbent retail infrastructure globally. Measure ramps of AI Agents and Shopping in years, not months. More at AI-RTZ #702 and #669.

(2) More Apple Siri AI Headwinds. Apple sending Siri staff to coding bootcamp is media catnip as an anti-Apple AI story. Doesn’t change the underlying thesis — Apple’s Siri+ Google Gemini partnership, More AI developents for Developers at June WWDC, refreshed Macs. Org churn is a speed bump, not proof it’s failing. Apple has a deep bech. More Context at AI-RTZ #978.

(3) No ID, No AI (at Anthropic, for some cases). Anthropic now asking for government photo ID + live selfie for certain Claude capabilities when fraud signals trip. Social tagged it “AI KYC.” (Know Your Customer Rules and Regs). On-brand for Anthropic as self-appointed ‘Guardian of the AI Galaxy’ — callback to ARD #54, per AI-RTZ #1051. Specific use cases only today. Regulatory and competitor responses TBD.

Plus: Gadget AI — The Verge on new Windows Recall security concerns. Ambient recording on PCs and phones is the Microsoft Copilot strategy. Recall feature running into more security issues; trust is the bottleneck. Every Recall stumble resets that clock. Background at AI-RTZ #877 and #382.

Bonus — today’s AI-RTZ companion #1058 covers Google’s Chrome browser skills + Gemini’s first native Mac app (built in Swift) — where 2026 AI browsers and desktop clients are heading.

Speed bumps are real, but the AI Tech Wave road is still traversable. Long journey. Interesting one. Stay tuned.

Quick Clips from today’s episode

[Short — AI Shopping is a Long Game](YouTube Shorts link) MP flashback to covering Amazon in the mid-90s: online retail took 20+ years to hit 15-20% of total. AI shopping via agents is in the same slow lane.

[Short — Kindle is an Utterly Untouched AI Surface](YouTube Shorts link) Amazon’s reading surface is the most under-exploited AI opportunity in big tech.
