Breakfast at Wimbledon, The Stelvio Pass, Mentorship and The Invest America Act…Sunday Reads and Listens
Good morning…
I am trying to finish up this Sunday post quickly to catch the live Wimbledon Finals of Alcarez vs. Sinner.
I have a bet on Alcarez that I placed on Robinhood.
July is my favorite sports month of the year with Wimbledon and Tour De France.
Last year Max and I went to Wimbledon and Ellen and I went to watch the final stage of the Tour de France.
This year, I am relying on YouTube TV to give me my daily updates which are fantastic.
Speaking of cycling, I love the GCN YouTube channel which has over 3 million subscribers.
This week they shared a most fascinating, must watch (scroll through it if you don’t have 30 minutes), grueling, video of 3 guys ‘Everesting’ Stelvio Pass…
To celebrate the 200th birthday of the legendary Stelvio Pass, Ollie decided to take on the ultimate challenge: Everesting it. That’s five ascents of the iconic 25km climb, totalling over 8,848m of elevation gain. Joined by ex-pro Alan Marangoni and the “Stelvio Man” Daniele, this is a story of suffering, stunning sunrises, and deep respect for cycling history. But there’s a twist. For the final, brutal rep, Ollie swaps his modern bike for a 1980s retro Pinarello, complete with friction shifters, toe straps, and impossibly hard gears, to pay homage to the heroes of the 1975 Giro d’Italia. Can he make it?
I have done the climb in 2016 and 2022…and I can tell you that just once in day is brutal. Both times we made it to the top in the snow…in July!

Onward…
My friend Brad Feld wrote another book titled ‘Give First: The Power of Mentorship’ – mentorship without stings attached. I have been lucky to get that mentorship from Brad and many others over the years and I take paying that forward seriously.
On the podcast front…
Brad Gerstner spearheaded the ‘Invest America Act’ which is just a very smart and simple act that passed allowing every kid born in America to have a $1,000 investing account set up by the government and placed in the S&P 500 ( $SPY ( ▼ 0.35% ) ).
He explains it all on their podcast with their special guest Michael Dell one of the best American entrepreneurs of all time (and extremely philanthropic):
Finally, Ellen and I learned a lot from this tragic retelling of the Anne Frank story called ‘A Small Light’. The story is told from the eyes of Miep Gies, the courageous secretary of Otto Frank who helped organize the Frank’s hiding in Amsterdam during the Nazi occupation.
Have a great Sunday.
