NVIDIA Sells Shovels In The AI Gold Rush
Happy Friday!
Today we’ll review NVIDIA’s Q1 2026 earnings report, but before I forget — in case you missed it, I went live Wednesday to walk through the themes that could dominate George Jetson’s Nasdaq-100.

NVIDIA Ignites The AI-Infused Paradigm Shift
NVIDIA is the foundational layer for AI infrastructure. The company sells shovels to prospectors of the AI gold rush.
Its Q1 FY2026 results weren’t just an earnings beat – it was a statement. Huang’s darling delivered its best quarter of all time despite writing down $4.5B of unsellable H20 chips due to US // China tariff turbulence.
Here are the numbers:
-
Revenue: $44.1B, up 69% YoY and 12% QoQ
-
Data Center Revenue: $39.1B, up 73% YoY
-
Gaming Revenue: $3.8B, up 42% YoY
-
Adjusted EPS: $0.81 (or $0.96 excluding China-related inventory charges)
-
GAAP Gross Margin: 60.5% (71.3% excluding the $4.5B H20 write-down)
And here’s Huang’s money quote,
“Global demand for NVIDIA’s AI infrastructure is incredibly strong. AI inference token generation has surged tenfold in just one year, and as AI agents become mainstream, the demand for AI computing will accelerate. Countries around the world are recognizing AI as essential infrastructure — just like electricity and the internet — and NVIDIA stands at the center of this profound transformation.”
NVIDIA holds the pole position to lead us into the AI-infused paradigm shift. The company is the shovel manufacturer in the next-gen gold rush. This image perfectly captures the spirit of the times. ht Michael Parekh.
Plotting Price
$NVDA’s reaction to its record earnings report was lackluster. The stock gained +3.25% in the session following its release, but lost its earnings gap gains today.
If the stock can hold $130 amidst its recent sell-off, investors may seek to increase exposure.
Earlier this week, I shared a post about the potential breakout in big-cap tech. With earnings behind us, I’m watching the Magnificent 7 (ex-Apple) for signs of strength.
