The Cashtag and The Internet Of Money…You Must Be Everywhere in 2025…That Is Stocktwits Plan Too
Musk is everywhere all the time.
So is Trump.
I do not have the skill, wallet, will, ego and/or desire to be everywhere like them, but there is much to learn.
When I stepped back in at Stocktwits last year I told our team that we need to be ‘everywhere’ as well.
Back In 2007 when I started Stocktwits, getting people on Stocktwits and Twitter to use the $cashtag was all consuming. At the same time, the web was a friendlier, more open place and I ran around the world getting financial sites and brokerages to pull the Stocktwits API/feeds into their platforms.
It worked. We grew.
By 2016 the internet started closing fast. Twitter and Facebook are now walled gardens. Today, the only way to be everywhere is to be Elon Musk or Trump or own Twitter, Facebook, TikTok or YouTube.
I think Stocktwits voices, sentiment and content should be everywhere too. While we have been busy going deep at Stocktwits with a greater selection of free market newsletters, livestreams, live earnings calls and polls, we have started going wide with our robust API as well.
Yesterday we announced our partnership with Etoro a global brokerage (over 100 countries) which recently fired for their IPO.
Our best streams and content will seen by all of Etoro users in the near future.
This is just the beginning.
There are THREE other massive shifts in technology that will fuel a shift back to ‘open’ over ‘closed’ for those that want to be/go ‘everywhere’.
The first is email. The old pipes of email are still better than the new pipes of social which are now owned by the overlords. The second is AI and the third arrived this weekend…’the internet of money.
While I groan about the $TRUMP memecoin grift – he knew it would lead to nonsense like this below’, if you look beyond/beneath it you will see the tectonic shift in rails, money and distribution that is open to just about everyone.
At least $80 billion in $TRUMP coin/money was created, distributed and traded without a bank, brokers or an exchange.
If you did not know what the ‘internet of money’ was …now you know!
With this new technology, toy, weapon the Stocktwits ‘Cashtag’ is everywhere.
Many product and design changes are quickly coming to Stocktwits in the next 60 days to make it an even more ‘everywhere’ product, community, network and brand. All of the changes are about opening us up, not closing the network down.
One really fun one is new event we are calling ‘The Cashtag Awards’ a celebration of all the best people and ideas of 2024 from the cashtag/fintwit network. It is April 30, in New York.
We have also made some executive hires including Anne Marie as our Chief Commercial Officer.
It is a fun and exciting time to be a creative right now as the closed internet meets the more decentralized internet of money…even as greed and grift reach all-time highs.
