Walmart’s Drone Delivery Is Taking Off

Walmart’s drone delivery program just got a serious upgrade.

In partnership with Wing, Alphabet’s drone division, the retail giant will expand its 30-minute drop-off service to five new metro areas: Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, Orlando, and Tampa

That brings drone delivery to more than 100 additional Walmart stores, adding momentum to a service that’s already humming in Dallas – Fort Worth and Northwest Arkansas.

The setup is simple: you order through the Wing app (Walmart is working on direct integration), and within half an hour, a drone arrives, hovers, and lowers your package to the ground via tether. These drones fly up to 65 mph and can carry up to five pounds — perfect for eggs, baby wipes, snacks, and the other daily essentials. If you’re a Walmart+ member, delivery is free. Otherwise, it’s $19.99.

Wing’s FAA-approved flights can travel beyond visual line-of-sight, meaning they don’t need pilots stationed nearby.

Drone delivery isn’t just a gimmick. It’s real innovation for last-mile logistics.

Walmart’s betting this is the future of local delivery. And judging by how smoothly things are scaling, they might be right.
