Will Crypto Outshine The 'Nifty Nine' in 2025?

Good morning everyone.

My predictions for 2025 have been made (in November I wrote – ‘The Crypto Boom is Back – No Excuses Not To Learn’), but on Stocktwits we are gathering a bunch of predictions to start the year and this one caught my eye. A resounding 63 percent of Stocktwits users (including me) think crypto will outshine the ‘Nifty Nine’ technology stocks.

We are helping people enter the silly/fun/brave new world of ‘memecoins’ with our Spot.dog ‘trade’ button on every crypto/memcoin ticker page:

Yesterday was Howie learns new tricks day.

I had Ethan (my chief of staff) at the office helping me get my crypto wallets cleaned up, buy an NFT, and start my memecoin trading. I was using my old Rainbow wallet, my Coinbase Wallet, OpenSea and moving money like a pro within a few minutes.

Way back in 2021, I was gifted many NFT’s when people got NFT fever. Here is one (a Degenerative Ape Wife) that my friend Yoni (Etoro) sent to my Rainbow wallet that was worth $5,000 when I received it from him:

I immediately wanted to sell it, but wondered in a blog post if that broke any form of gifting etiquette

I opened a Rainbow wallet so he could send it to me and deposited $500 of Ethereum to fart around myself. Here is my account page now (thank you Justin for the howardlindzon.eth address):

The year 2021 has made me feel old and dumb and just one look at the ‘discovery’ page of the Rainbow wallet is a huge reminder of why…

I have no room in my head right now for this new language of tickers and tokens and NFT’s, but I can sure see why people are excited and having fun.

Now that I have an expensive NFT (meaning that no way would I spend $5,000 on one myself), I have some questions:

It is art?

Is it a gift that I can regift or sell for cash to buy bike gear and ALO stuff ?

If I sell it for cash, do I have to tell Yoni?

These are all questions I was hoping Larry David would answer on Curb Your Enthusiasm, but he ignored the topic all season.

Let me know your thoughts…

By yesterday, I had forgotten the name of the actual wallet until I checked my newsletter search. I opened the Rainbow wallet and now my $500 of $ETH.X is worth $390 and my $5,000 NFT is worth about $50.

I guess the only question is do I hold or ‘regift’. Is regifting an NFT bad etiquette?

I will tell you this from my few hours learning and restarting my crypto journey in 2025 that is different than 2021 into NFT’s and memecoins…everything from getting a wallet, (choices and ease of operation), to receiving airdrops (Spot.dog sent me a free Penguin) to moving money (almost free) is easier.

I am hooked, although I expect to keep my personal direct allocations to all the fun and games of speculating on memecoins and buying NFT’s to very small amounts. As I have mentioned here over the years, I would rather pay the management fees to the crypto funds living and breathing this full time.

What a great time to be a teen or twenty something with a keen interest in all things digital, money and marketing and creativity. As a 60 year old , this new world is not going to consume me, but it is obvious now that we have entered inning two of a slow long game of digital currencies and assets growth. It is going to be a great trend to ride, so to ride it best, learning the tools and trade of it is worth it.
